Solomon Street

They were very clear.
“We want to make the most of this view!”

The Challenge!
The client brief requested we retain the existing brick foot print at ground level and develop a new second level. This ensured we could maximize ocean views and transform the aesthetics of the 70’s house into a visually striking modern and sustainable home.
Before and After…
Its easy to look at these two images and appreciate the result.
But the amount of work, patience, stress, fear, uncertainty, passion, trust and hope that goes into the building process cannot be understated.
Getting Solomon Street Residence built was a journey, and an absolute credit to the clients for their perseverance, vision and commitment!
The project was developed on a tight budget, so design decisions were made with the philosophy of “keeping it simple”.
Whilst this is easier said than done, it was a strong principle that guided many of the decisions throughout the process…
Material palette representing new + old.
In developing the concept, we spoke about materials very early in the process.
It was agreed that the contrasting combination of the existing white brick and the vertical black cladding was a powerful, yet simple representation of the project. Old + New.
The introduction of the full timber reveal (floor, walls + ceiling) added a warm touch and ties the lower + upper levels together.
Located close to the coast and facing due west, visual connection to the water was essential.
